Light Square

English name:  Light Square.
Colonel William Light (1786-1839) was the first Surveyor-General of South Australia responsible for the development of the 1837 Adelaide Plan.

Kaurna name:  Wauwi.
Wauwi was the wife of Kadlitpina (a Kaurna Elder at the time of European settlement)

Features:  Colonel Light’s grave and memorial, the Pride Walk (acknowldging the diversity of the LGBTIQ community), and public artworks including:

• Bert Flugelman's "The Knot" (1975)

• Richard's Tipping's "The Eternal Question" (1982); and

• Ieva Pocius's statue (1986) of women's suffrage pioneer Catherine Helen Spence

Bisected (east-west) by Grenfell Street, Light Square is on the north-south route of Morphett Street
