Art Prize 2023 - Entries now open
by Eden Dickin and Shane Sody
Entries have opened for the biennial Art Prize that supports your Open Green Public Adelaide Park Lands.
The Art Prize is a showcase for artists who can “capture the essence of one or more elements of the Adelaide Park Lands”. The event raises awareness of the irreplaceable jewel that garlands your city.
Combining Adelaide's two greatest strengths: a world-wide reputation for the arts, and the world-unique Park Lands, the event is characterised by one word: INSPIRE.
This is the fifth iteration of the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize after earlier successful events in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020-21.
The Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize is bigger than ever this time, with the total prize pool expanded to $50,000, including a first prize of $20,000 and fifteen minor prizes of $2,000 each.
The 15 minor prizes are:
Young Artist (u25),
School Student,
Royal Adelaide Show People's Choice,
Digital Art,
Emerging Artist, and
ten $2,000 commended prizes.
Chair of the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize organising committee, Nataliya Sard, recognises the importance of cherishing our Open, Green, Public Park Lands:
“Adelaide was recently ranked the third most liveable city in the world, and although the ranking fell away this year, I strongly believe Adelaide will bounce back to near the top of the world list because no other city can match the world-unique Park Lands.”
Entries are now open to budding and established Australian and international artists alike, working in any visual arts field or medium.
Five distinguished independent judges have been appointed. Artworks will be judged on artistic merit, and their connection to the theme: “Inspire’’. Entries will close on 31 January 2023.
Works that the judges select as finalists will be displayed at the Adelaide Festival Centre from 24 March to 7 May 2023, and will be for sale at prices set by each artist.
Part proceeds will support the work of the Adelaide Park Lands Association to EXPLORE, INSPIRE, PROTECT and RESTORE.
Conditions of entry, and entry forms are available at www.parklandsart.com.
If you know an artist you’d like to encourage to enter, you can purchase a gift certificate (value $50) from the APA Shop, to cover the artist’s entry fee.
Tax-deductible donations to the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize can be made through the Australian Cultural Fund.
