Lord Mayor Art Prize finalists reception

Lord Mayor, Jane Lomax Smith

Adelaide Lord Mayor, Jane Lomax Smith has agreed to host a formal reception at the Town Hall for artists selected as finalists in the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize.

Invitations will be issued late in February for the formal reception in the Queen Adelaide room of the Town Hall.

The City of Adelaide, through Kadaltilla/Park Lands Authority is one of the major sponsors of the biennial Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize.

Who will get invitations?

That will soon be revealed!

Our highly talented and qualified judging panel: Leone Fuller, Jane Macfarlane, Khai Liew, Leigh Robb, and Angela Valamanesh, are hard at work reviewing each and every valuable piece of art that has been submitted for the 2023 Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize.

When entries closed on 31 January, a total of 480 submissions had been received. This is by far a record since the commencement of the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize in 2014.

Total entries received for each iteration of the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize since its commencement in 2014.

While artists eagerly wait for the finalists to be announced, we are encouraging artists to showcase their entries.

The Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize Instagram feed: @adl_parklandsart is allowing each artist to submit their entry in a digital showcase. https://www.instagram.com/adl_parklandsart/

To participate as a submitting artist, just tag your own Instagram post of your artwork with #parklandsartprize

Some entries, submitted by artists, are also being displayed on the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize Facebook page.

This is a great opportunity for the public and fellow artists to get a sneak peek at some of the fantastic works that have been submitted. You can head over to @adl_parklandsart on Instagram or parklandsart on Facebook to view, like, and comment on the diverse and inspiring artworks, tagged with #parklandsartprize.

We are expecting to be able to name the finalists by Monday 20 February, after which the Lord Mayor’s office will be contacting each finalist, with invitations to the Lord Mayor’s Town Hall reception.

How many finalists will there be?

We can’t give a precise answer yet, because it depends partly upon the physical dimensions of each selected artwork, and the available space in the foyer gallery of the Festival Centre. Nevertheless the number is expected to be between 70 and 80.

After the formal reception in the Adelaide Town Hall on Thursday 16 March 2023, the exhibition will commence the following week, on Friday 24 March 2023 at the Adelaide Festival Centre, when the prize-winners will be announced.

The exhibition will continue until 7 May 2023. It will be open to the public whenever the Festival Centre is open, including for evening performances during the exhibition period.

All artworks on display at the Festival Centre will be available for purchase, at prices set by each artist.

Most of the proceeds from art work sales will go to each artist. The Adelaide Park Lands Association will take a commission on each sale, to support our activities: Explore, Inspire, Protect, and Restore.
