EOFY Art Prize opportunity

by Shane Sody

You can showcase a part of the 2023 Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize, while doing yourself (and us!) a favour at tax time.

Many of the art works exhibited earlier this year at the Festival Centre are still available for sale, but only until 30 June.

If you own a business, your purchase of an art work can be an instant write-off for tax purposes, provided it is displayed in your business premises.

Of course, your purchase also serves to support two worthy causes:

We are very thankful to two of our generous artists, Janet Raleigh and Peter Baka, who’ve each donated their Art Prize finalist artwork to the Association. We don’t have an office in which to display these works, so we’re offering them to you.

“Whispering Grandmother” and (right) its creator, Port Lincoln-based Janet Raleigh.
Available for: $280.

Artist’s statement: “The murmuring movement of the foliage captures the wind creating delightful mystical music in the breeze. The cascading strings whisper softly to offer a sense of calm and that of good company. Under the She-Oak tree is a safe place to be. Inspired by the authentic nature and shape of these trees we can appreciate the importance of creating natural connections, taking the time to notice, the more you shall see and hear while spending time in the natural landscape. Allocasuarina verticillata also known as the Drooping She-Oak provides sanctuary for many.”

“Strange Days and Nights” and (right) its creator Peter Baka.

Medium: Acrylic On Yupo. Available for: $1,000

Artist’s statement: Walk in and around the Park Lands often. The Park Lands helps me to stay human.

In the case of either of the two donated artworks above, 100% of the sale price will be retained by the Adelaide Park Lands Association.

For each of the other works (below) the sale proceeds will be split 70% to the artist and 30% to the Association.

Learn more (or purchase) any of the artworks by following any of the image links below. On any artwork’s own image page, simply click “Add to cart”.

To browse larger images of each of these works, go to the “finalist feature” page on the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize website.

The Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize will be returning in early 2025.
