"After the Feast" - Hamish Fleming
The Adelaide Park Lands present a unique overlap between two unlikely counterparts.
A green expanse, with towering trees, situated mere meters away from the heart of a city is not a common occurrence.
This intersection between nature and infrastructure becomes even more visible at night, and the division between the two is not one of strict boundaries.
“After the Feast” centres itself around a mundane, yet immediately recognisable, Park Lands picnic bench.
The bench itself is a simple subject, but details in the nocturne that envelops it reveal much more. From the glimmer of more infrastructure far off in the distant light, to the traces of uncouth human activity shadowed by the tree line, this work hones in on more frequently overlooked aspects of the Adelaide Park Lands.
“After the Feast” strives to capture the liminal space where separate worlds of urbanism and environmentalism, tranquility and trepidation dance in harmonious contradiction.
