My image of the boy stealing a bird’s egg from a nest is symbolic of what has happened to the Adelaide Park Lands over many years from 1837, when they were first planned. The original 2,300 acres has been encroached upon over the subsequent years by the State Government and others. I have depicted grape vines as a visual question to show what may have happened to some Park Lands if they hadn’t been strictly managed.
The basic image is appropriated from a black and white woodblock print by an English artist, Eric Ravilious (1903 – 1942). I have greatly modified and reinterpreted his work.
