"Mnemosyne" - Marlize de Klerk
Inspired by the sights, smells, and sounds of running through Adelaide’s Park Lands, Mnemosyne embodies the intersection of memory, material, and emotion.
As I move through these natural spaces, repetitive rhythms of running inspire fleeting moments of reflection, where childhood memories resurface, merging with the present. These ephemeral thoughts guide my practice, finding expression through the tactile qualities of porcelain and the meditative process of repetitive mark-making.
Each fold and layer in Mnemosyne holds a personal story, embedding time and memory into the material.
The flowing, frill-like forms echo the organic textures of the parklands, translating sensory experiences into physical objects.
Fragile yet enduring, porcelain becomes a vessel for memory, inspiring a sense of connection.
Embedding repetitive gestures into porcelain, I aim to bridge personal memory with universal human experiences, inviting dialogue between past and present through layered material narratives.
