An initial startup meeting was held last Saturday, 5 June (World Environment Day) at this bitumen expanse within Bonython Park / Tulya wardlu (Park 27) earmarked for partial re-greening (and sometime in the future, perhaps, new beach volleyball courts).
We're fortunate to have the City of Adelaide as a formal partner in the project.
In addition we have support and assistance from two Councillors from the City of West Torrens Thebarton ward (Dominic Mugavin and Graham Nitschke), along with Thebarton resident Keirah Forsyth, two members of the Park Lands Authority (Ben Willsmore and Stephanie Johnston) two APA Committee members (Shane Sody and Ted Jennings) and City of Adelaide staffer Marty Reeve.
This initial planning group is about to lodge an application with Green Adelaide for a "Grassroots Grant" to help re-green the southern end of this car park, opposite Thebarton tram stop.
Whether the grant application is successful or not, we are determined to steer this project through over the next 12 months, and have it recognised as a model for future community re-greening of places in the Adelaide Park Lands. www.adelaide-parklands.asn.au/restore
The next step will be to seek assistance from student landscape designers, to plan how to make this location green and inviting for Thebarton locals, tram commuters and visitors.
