The week-long COVID lockdown in July provided a minor delay to work on the long-awaited new wetlands in the southern part of Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16).
Soil is being stockpiled just north of the wetland location, next to Fullarton Road. This stockpile is temporary, enabling soil to be stored and sorted for reuse within the project or taken offsite. The stockpile area will be removed at the end of the construction works and the site reinstated to Park Land.
100,000 new plants will be planted over the winter months
Given the significant volume of soil to be excavated, tested and sorted, machinery is regularly traversing between the construction area and the stockpile site. Early works have included excavation of the inlet basin and establishment of the eastern mound
It's estimated that the work will be finished before the end of the year.
