Dog Management map

There are a number of planning documents that affect the Park Lands. One of them is called a "Community Land Management Plan" (CLMP). The City Council is undertaking a long-overdue revision of this Plan and has released, for community consultation, a draft of the "General Provisions" (the over-arching framework).

The document includes a proposed "dog management map" which indicates areas where dogs would be permitted either on-lead or off-lead.

One of the biggest problems with Park Lands management is that the State Government tends to disregard documents of this type. The State Government simply over-rides the City Council by re-zoning or taking over sites when it determines to build something over your Open Green Public Park Lands. There are examples listed here, including a proposed $660 million stadium, a hospital and a multi-storey car park.

Nevertheless planning documents do have some influence on what the City Council chooses to permit within your Open Green Public Park Lands; e.g. with smaller-scale but important issues such as lighting, car parking, advertising signage, public art and monuments, dog management, use of drones and model aircraft etc.
