The City of Adelaide has completed work to renew the ornamental lake in Rymill Park /Murlawirrapurka (Park 14).
The long-delayed $6 million lake works were completed just in time for the Equestrian Festival from 18 to 21 April.
According to the City of Adelaide, the lake has been completely rebuilt with a new concrete basin, walls, path ways and extended deck beside the kiosk.
The lake also has become fully sustainable, with a pipeline connecting it to the nearby Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16) wetlands.
Water from the wetlands will be stored in large tanks within Rymill Park before being filtered through a new rain garden. It will then be used to top up Rymill Park Lake, saving City of Adelaide ratepayers tens of thousands of dollars annually on water bills.
Other features of the new lake include weirs dividing its southern and northern ends, duck ladders, extensive landscaping and new lighting.
Meanwhile, a rebuild of the 1960s-vintage kiosk is expected to begin shortly, to commence a new 21-year lease: https://www.adelaide-parklands.asn.au/blog/2024/2/27/21-year-lease-for-rebuilt-kiosk

Meanwhile, in Veale Gardens
Smaller-scale works in Veale Gardens (Park 21) have also been completed. The works have rehabilitated and improved the banks of the artificial creek, to prevent water overflowing and soil erosion, as well as upgrading two footbridges and several adjacent footpaths.
