Work is nearing completion on the $13 million Victoria Park wetlands.
For more than a year, construction has been going on behind fences in the southern part of Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16).
It's a massive worksite and an ambitious project to create a scenic wetlands with a series of lakes. This 55-second video showcases progress since April 2021.
More than a hundred thousand individual plants (including 160 tree species) will soon be planted in and around the new wetlands.
Two informal rock crossings are being built over the wetlands - two areas where there are large stepping stones over the water.
There will be two kilometres of walking trails around the wetlands, criss-crossing the entire site of more than three hectares.
The completion date has been set back a couple of times, and is now listed as being "first quarter" of 2022, although you might have to wait for sufficient rain in the autumn to see the wetlands at their capacity.
