The Adelaide City Council, and State Parliament’s Upper House have each passed separate resolutions in support of your Helen Mayo Park, threatened by Premier Steven Marshall’s proposed new riverbank stadium.

Votes in the Council chamber (on Tues 26 Oct) and in State Parliament (on Wed 27 Oct) have put the State Government’s anti-Park Lands agenda in the spotlight.

The SA Labor Opposition has joined with The Greens with commitments to protect Adelaide riverbank Park Lands from the current re-zoning threats of the Marshall Liberal Government.

The pledges throw a spotlight on the City Council, which in September took the politically-controversial step of offering to collaborate with the Liberal State Government in its push to confiscate Open Green Public Park Lands.

APA has been lobbying since 2009 to have the Adelaide Park Lands declared a State Heritage Area.

Despite a positive recommendation from the State Heritage Council in 2018, the State Government has kept the idea on "pause" now for almost three years. So it is with a sense of amazement that we read of a new push to heritage-list not the Park Lands, but a patch of bitumen that has been despoiling one Park for the past few decades.
