The bells of St Peters Cathedral - and a brand new Garden Market - greeted participants on our Guided Walk, last Sunday 27 March through Tarntanya Wama (Park 26).
A crowd of 40 joined APA's Park Ambassador Helen Hutton, on an informative two-and-a-half hour walk in glorious sunshine through Creswell Gardens, Pennington Gardens, Stella Bowen Park, Light's Vision, Pinky Flat and Elder Park.
These disparate green spaces are all part of Park 26, which is part of the central part of your Adelaide Park Lands. It's a Park that has suffered many losses over the years but it still proved full of surprises for most of our participants.
At one stage, the bells of St Peters Cathedral were trying to drown out Ms Hutton's commentary, but that wasn't a problem for eight members of Adelaide's deaf community, who had their Auslan communication aide from the Deaf Butterfly Effect along with them.
Our Guided Walk coincided with the first Pennington Gardens Market, which proved a great place to stop after the tour and grab a coffee and lunch before browsing the market stalls.
Popular stops on the Guided Walk included the 1914 Memorial Oak tree, the view from Light's Vision and the tiled mural underneath the City Bridge, reminding us all that we were on Kaurna land.
APA's next two events are;
Next Sunday, 3 April 2022 - the Park Lands Loop Collective - a 15.5km walk, run or cycle around the City on the Park Lands Trail; and
Sunday 10 April 2022 - a Guided Walk through Golden Wattle Park / Mirnu Wirra (Park 21W)
