Have you LOOPED yet? The FAQ

by Kate Treloar

Over the past few years, hundreds of people have joined one or more of our “Park Lands Loop Collective” events, and completed a full or partial loop around the Adelaide CBD through your unique Park Lands.

Have you been one of them?

If not, but you are loop-curious then perhaps these FAQs will demystify the event and help you to take the plunge, on Sunday 6 April.

Q. What is the Park Lands Loop Collective?

A. It’s a twice-yearly event supporting you to walk (or run or cycle) the 14km loop around Adelaide through your amazing Park Lands.

Q. Why join in?

A. Completing “the loop” is an extremely satisfying way to explore the breadth of your Adelaide Park Lands. Being part of the collective is a supported, social and fun way to do it.

Q. When is it held?

A. It’s easy to remember: on the Sunday at the start and end of daylight saving (early April and early October). The upcoming event is Sunday 6th April.

Q. How does the Park Lands Loop Collective work?

A. There are two ways to participate:

  1. HOSTED WALK - meet at Himeji Garden on South Terrace for a 9am departure. We walk at a moderate pace for a couple hours then take a break at Bonython Cafe (where you might purchase refreshments). We then walk for about another two hours to get back to the start.

  2. NOT HOSTED, ANY MODE - do your own loop in your own time either walking, running or cycling and be part of the collective on your own terms. Register for a map and tips for the day.

Q. Is there car parking at the Himeji Garden start point?

A. Yes, and it’s free.

Q. What if the weather is bad?

The event proceeds whatever the weather* so come prepared with hat/sunscreen or raincoats as required. Fortunately though, the times of year we loop are conducive to excellent walking weather!

*In the case of extreme or dangerous weather the event would be cancelled and all registrants notified.

The clockwise route; starting and finishing at Himeji Japanese garden. Booking for the event will get you a higher-resolution PDF map, and a link to a GPS route map that you can load onto a compatible device if you want.

Q. Do I have to do the whole 14km?

A. Not at all! You are free to do as much or as little as you choose. Even a partial loop is a great way to explore new part of your Park Lands and get some exercise. If you are not sure if you can go the whole 14km, the free tram goes from our halfway stopping point at Bonython Park back to near the start point, so it is easy to opt out then, if you need to.

We’d love to see you at the upcoming event on Sunday 6th April 2025. Book here: https://events.humanitix.com/parklands-loop-collective-8-14km-walk-ride-or-run-around-adelaide
