Helen Mayo deserves better

Helen Mayo deserves better

South Australia's first female doctor would be turning in her grave if she knew how poorly the City Council and the former State Government were managing the Park named in her honour.

We’re on a mission to get this Park worthy of the name of Helen Mayo, and celebrated as part of your Open Green Public Adelaide Park Lands.

Loop Walk on a Loop

Loop Walk on a Loop

Twice per year, change your clocks and come on an Adelaide Park Lands Park Loop walk!

Motor racing back - for how long?

With months-long preparations for a four-day carbon emission festival set to return to Victoria Park, local residents hope that the City Council doesn’t renege on its promises to investigate increasing tree cover.

Bells ringing out for a Guided Walk

Bells ringing out for a Guided Walk

The bells of St Peters cathedral - and a brand new Garden Market - greeted participants on our Guided Walk, last Sunday 27 March through Tarntanya Wama (Park 26).

A crowd of 40 joined APA's Park Ambassador Helen Hutton, on an informative two-and-a-half hour walk in glorious sunshine through Creswell Gardens, Pennington Gardens, Stella Bowen Park, Light's Vision, Pinky Flat and Elder Park.

More trees and enhanced equestrian facilities are on the wishlist for owners who keep horses in Park 6 of your Adelaide Park Lands. The City Council is reviewing its Community Land Management Plan for the Park, and will get feedback from horse owners keen to ensure that the Park can be enjoyed for generations to come – and improved where necessary.

Petition Victory

Petition Victory

After getting 3,998 signatures on a petition to “Save Helen Mayo Park” we are celebrating a victory.

Premier Steven Marshall failed to listen. He's now lost his job. His lack of vision in trying to destroy Helen Mayo Park with a stadium has disappeared as well. However, the new Labor State Government also has a number of threats to your Park Lands on its agenda.

Nature as therapy

Nature as therapy

The rejuvenating benefits of time spent in nature can’t be ignored. And “ecotherapy” is increasingly being used as a preventative and restorative health strategy. We spoke to two people working in this space in the Park Lands – the Botanic Gardens’ resident horticultural therapist, and a nature-supported counsellor.
